Invitation from Zhang Jialong

Dear Mr.Kerry,

Welcome to China.

There are some new situations about Internet freedom and human rights in China since we met in February, and I hope I could have a chance to talk to you about them.

It would be better if you could chat with me in person. I would like to invite you to my home and have dinner together.

About Internet freedom:

As the 2014 Hong Kong protests (also known as the Umbrella Movement or Umbrella Revolution) began in September and escalated in October, the popular photo-sharing app Instagram was completely blocked.

The unprecedented blocking of BBC's website is a new symbol of China’s stricter censorship. The Great Firewall that restricts Internet freedom is now higher than ever before.

You should prepare some VPN if you want to use websites that are blocked by the Chinese authorities, such as Google service,Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, The New York Times and Bloomberg News.

About human rights:

Recently China's human rights situation has not improved.

Liu Xiaobo, Xu Zhiyong, Liu Xianbin, Chen Wei, Chen Xi, Wang Bingzhang, Peng Ming, Zhu Yufu, Guo Quan, Chen Kegui, Li Bifeng and other prisoners of conscience are still in prison.

Liu Xia remains under house arrest although she has not been charged with a crime.

Pu Zhiqiang,Gao Yu, Ilham Tohti, Zhang Lin, Yang Maodong, Liu Ping, Wei Zongping, Li Huaping, Zhao Fengsheng, Tang Jingling, Wang Qingying, Yuan Xinting, Ding Jiaxi, Zhao Changqing, Huang Wenxun, Zhang Shaojie, Chang Boyang, Lv Gengsong, Chen Shuqing, Wang Mo, Wang Zang, Chenkun and others are suffering from political persecution.

Those Chinese prisoners of conscience currently imprisoned require our collective, sustained attention and support.

I call on the U.S. government to use the power of diplomacy and public opinion to request that China immediately free Liu Xiaobo, Xu Zhiyong and other prisoners of conscience jailed for political reasons, and refrain from any conduct that restricts their freedom.

Meanwhile I suggest that U.S. diplomats should pay attention to and supporting the families of prisoners of conscience.

Yours truly,

Zhang Jialong
